RUI GOMES
paintor
This affable Portuguese who was born in Porto in 73, had – as everyone should have – a peaceful, happy childhood. Because of this it is not surprising that he persists in eternalising it.
He has a lean but attractive young body, and a sober appearance with graceful movements which hides but does not conceal a modest, friendly and sincere character. He is very private while extroverted and loves the simple things in life and moral values like honesty and decency. He also has a lively expression, with a communicative, mischievous look, which transmits the sensorial weight of his innocent sentiments to those around him, resulting in his friendship being an authentic luxury and pleasure.
He is a polyglot artist, with a degree in Plastic Arts – Painting from the University of Porto. He is a humanist and vital, prepared, studied and studious who, incapable of containing his eagerness to learn, is curious and daring, avant-garde and a brave innovator, who confesses to being a painter above all else and modestly admits he is a follower, albeit it a critical one, of the works of, among others, the great maestros Jean-Michel Basquiat, Cy Twombly and the CoBrA group. And he presents his works to us – which are already accumulating gratefully received professional recognition – with his colouristic pictorial art, happy and carefree, in which he portrays his creations with seemingly childish strokes, which are actually deliberate. His creations, with great technique control, aim to generate emotions that are not read or translated and that do not even need interpreting, in paintings that are fresh, positive, enjoyable and charming, deserving without doubt, peaceful and pleasant contemplation.
His catalogue is a relaxed, recommendable, fun journey that we intend to visit throughout these pages. |
